The system allows Korean Hangul and Hanja, Simple Stroke, KSC, and Unicode to be entered into all Windows applications. You can now write Korean letters using your everyday Windows word processor, add Korean columns to your spread-sheet, prepare Korean flyers for your upcoming events using your desktop publishing program, store Korean addresses in your Windows database programs!

Major Features

Supports both Unicode and ANSI Applications

Now you can input characters in Unicode mode for Unicode applications! Applications such as Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP Suite, Notepad, and many others are Unicode conformant. An application is Unicode conformant if it processes each character in double bytes and it recognizes fonts that are structured by the Unicode TrueType font definition. Almost all new applications will be Unicode compatible.

Korean Partner 6.0 supports the Korean KSC5601 code standards, which is the most popular internal code used in Korea.

Korean Partner 6.0 provides fonts in both Unicode and non-Unicode formats. The font facename for the non-Unicode begins with "KSC" - these are suitable for ANSI applications. The Unicode font facename begins with "TSC" - these are used in Unicode applications.

Automatic Selection of Internal Code

The user no longer needs to select the internal code to be used for Korean input. An input session is started by the user choosing his or her "Language Preference". Korean Partner will automatically select the appropriate display and input code mode based on the language preference and the current application type. The user may also leave the "Input Code Using" feature at default ("Auto Select") for either languages.

The user can force the input code of a specific type to differ from the automatic choice offered. The system lists the type of internal codes that are logically available to the user based on the preferences chosen for using the Korean Language. However, forcing a choice with Unicode is not advisable.

Enhanced Single Cursor Word Processing

• When a character is processed in Unicode mode. Under Unicode standard, all language character sets are defined in double byte so the processing of each Unicode character is by nature "Single Cursor".
• When Korean Partner is capable of controlling the cursor in non-Unicode mode. For applications that are not Unicode compatible, each Korean character normally would require double cursor movements. However, we have implemented a special coding scheme which reduces the double cursor requirement to a single cursor. However, not all applications can utilize single cursor processing because some of them employ special formats that do not communicate with external programs such as Korean Partner.

Software Compatibility

• Supports all Windows NT functions and applications such as MS Office 97/2000/XP.

• Korean character documents that are made by Korean Partner from various localized versions of MS Office97/2000/XP are compatible to each other.
• Supports HZ, MIME, and ISO2022 Internet standards.

Utility Programs

Meta Converter
This utility program is designed to facilitate the use of Korean characters in graphics applications which do not allow double-byte characters to be processed. One selects the characters that are to be used, adjusts the settings as desired in the program, and the program converts them into a Windows Meta File format that is suitable for use by graphics applications.

Single Byte Converter
When Korean characters cannot be used in a graphics application (such as CorelDraw), the more powerful Single-Byte Converter can be used as an alternative to the Meta Converter to create new single-byte fonts. Basically, a new font thus created can be used on all Windows-based computers - even those without Korean Partner installed. Each single byte font mimics the properties of an English font and can hold a maximum of 188 characters.
